This self-paced course provides introductory information about cultural safety, Western Australian Aboriginal history, the impacts of trauma on the Aboriginal population, principles for partnership, a perspective of cultural openness, and strategies for positive work practices.
This course aims to enable you to acquire and demonstrate a basic knowledge and understanding of cultural safety in child protection across Western Australia.
At the end of course participants will be able to:
- Define cultural safety and its impact on groups of the non-dominant culture
- Understand the impacts of history, colonisation, trauma, racism and disadvantage on the Aboriginal population in Western Australia
- Identify ways of working respectfully with Aboriginal people
- Improve own work practices to promote cultural safety
